Following pandemic hiatus in 2022, Vancouver Startup Week set to return next year

October 20, 2022

VSW held past two events virtually amid pandemic uncertainty.

Vancouver Startup Week (VSW) has announced that it will be back in June 2023, in a message to email subscribers.

“We’re excited to bring the Vancouver Startup community together again for a week full of our favourite events: Opening Reception, Recruitment Fair, Networking Events, and more,” VSW’s organizers stated in the email.

VSW 2023 will take place from June 2 to June 9.

VSW, the annual week-long tech event focused on connecting members of the Greater Vancouver startup community, cancelled this year’s edition in February amid continued uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, noting plans to host its next event in person.

At that time, VSW promised to return next year, adding that it plans to use the extra few months to “implement new initiatives internally and continue conversations with members of our community to plan a fun and impactful Vancouver Startup Week in May 2023.”

VSW 2023 will take place from June 2 to June 9. The 2023 edition will represent VSW’s ninth annual event after the organization shifted VSW to a virtual platform over the past two years.

It remains unclear whether next year’s event will be in-person or hybrid. BetaKit has reached out to the event organizers for more clarity.

In 2020, VSW said it attracted over 2,000 attendees across 80 virtual events, including panel discussions, fireside chats, interactive workout sessions, and networking events.

VSW’s leadership is made up of Vancouver Startup society members and a team of volunteers from the startup ecosystem in and outside of Vancouver.

As provinces have lifted pandemic restrictions, other Canadian tech conferences have announced their return to holding events in person in 2022 after being forced to cancel or transition to virtual meetings in previous years. Other Canadian tech conferences that have either already returned or intend to do so this year include Collision, Startupfest, Elevate, Inventures, and SAAS NORTH.
